Case study 04 / Artist / Colorado
huck.jorris
An artist site built on withholding. A gate before the content, fog over the grid, and no fully opaque borders.

The brief
Downtempo and dubstep, mathematics and nature. The brand is contradiction, so the site had to be too.
01
Atmosphere first. Dark, full-bleed, with the mark and the nav doing the talking.
02
Music, tour, projects and booking each in a lane, instead of one overloaded link-in-bio.
03
Booking enquiries routed to Parable Music Group without dragging fans through a business page.
Fog, bone,one hairline
Five values and no cards. Structure is a 10% hairline or a gradient into near-black. Nothing else.

Four-stop scrim
Not true black: a near-black with a blue-green bias, so photography sits inside the page rather than on it. Borders are white alphas at .10, .20 and .70. Over cover art they pick up the image instead of cutting a gray line through it.
Tour
Outfit · 300–500 · .18em nav · .28em eyebrow · .4em gate
Never heavier than 500. The same face reads as nav, label and 60px page title purely by tracking.
Black Box, Main Room
Cormorant Garamond · 300 · 20–34px · −0.01em
Cormorant on the venue names. The tour list reads like a program, not a ticketing page.
Four parts,whole site
One button, one row, one field, one marquee. Four pages feel like one record because the shell never changes.
The only button on the home page, shown once per visitor. It cross-fades the landing plate over 900ms and unlocks scroll.
Month, day, venue, city. No ticket button, no badge. Dates sync from the Google Sheet management already keeps.
No boxes. One underline moving 20% → 70% white on focus; failed validation shakes 4px instead of turning red.
Nine festivals loop at 42s behind a two-axis mask, so the list never appears to start or stop.
Atmospherebefore tickets
Tour as a program, not a funnel. Hairline rows, one ticket link, the rest withheld.

Store staysoff-site
merch.huckjorris.com keeps checkout on a subdomain. The main site stays atmosphere.

Underthe hood
Nobody logs into a CMS to add a show, and commerce never touches the mood.
Framework
Next.js on Vercel. Four routes, one shared layout. Only the hero, fog and nav are client components.
Tour data
Google Sheet sync. No CMS, no developer needed to add a date.
Music
Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Music, Bandcamp, YouTube. Deferred so players never block first paint.
Community
Patreon, Twitch, Discord, Cypher Society, CCREW and observe. each get a tile.
Booking
Enquiries post to an API route and land with Parable Music Group.
Merch
A subdomain storefront, so the main site stays a mood and not a checkout funnel.
